Online marriage coaching for husbands who want practical tools that make a real difference at home.

Josh Livingstone Headshot

MY STORY

I'm Josh Livingstone, The Husband Coach. For the past 15 years, I've coached married men and couples at every stage of marriage, from newlyweds to men who have been married for more than 30 years. That work builds on 20 years of pastoral counselling, sitting with people through some of the hardest and most important moments of their lives.

Some men come to me because their marriage is struggling. Others have a good marriage and know it could be stronger. What they share is the feeling that they're trying hard without knowing what will actually make a difference.

Over the years, I've learned that meaningful change rarely comes from simply trying harder. More often, it starts with understanding what is really happening and learning how to respond differently.

One husband I worked with felt completely drained by an ongoing communication problem in his marriage. No matter how hard he tried, nothing he said or did seemed to help. Together, we pinpointed one specific communication skill he was missing. What his wife needed was a different kind of response from him, and once he learned it, things began to shift. Within three weeks, a problem that had been present for years had finally gone away.

HOW I WORK

That experience reflects the way I coach. My approach is practical, direct and action-focused. In our sessions, we:

Identify what isn't working in your marriage right now
Clarify what is within your control, so your energy goes where it counts
Build specific skills you can start using at home straight away

Along the way, I'll give you simple, memorable tools you can use in real conversations. Two that husbands use most:

THE 3 C'S OF CONVERSATION

CURIOUSITY

Step into your wife's world.

Ask questions that help her share more and help you understand.

CONCENTRATION

Remove distractions

(yes, the phone) and listen properly. Be patient, try not to interrupt.

CONFIRMATION

Say back what you heard
check you've understood correctly, avoiding misunderstanding.

Modern Office Lounge

FOLLOW M.A.D WHEN YOUR WIFE IS UPSET

  • Manage yourself: Slow down and don't let your first defensive reaction run the conversation.

  • Acknowledge: "I can see that you're upset."

  • Discover: "Tell me what I did that upset you. I want to make sure I understand."

I coach online, so I work with husbands wherever they live. I work with men from all backgrounds and am respectful of the beliefs and values of different faith communities.

You can start before you have it all figured out. What helps most is clear direction, practical tools, and someone in your corner to help you put them into action.

WHAT HUSBANDS SAY
"I was unable to meet my wife's demands without burning out on a regular basis. In a single session, the Husband Coach helped me get clarity on what was in my control to do differently and to communicate healthy boundaries with my wife about the areas I could and couldn't help her with. Six months of therapy was unable to solve what we accomplished in a single session! My wife and I are now on the way to a much healthier relationship."

COMMON QUESTIONS

What does a husband coach do?

A husband coach works with married men to improve how they communicate, handle conflict and show up in their marriage. My focus is practical: we work out what's getting in the way, then build the specific skills that help you respond better at home.

How is marriage coaching different from counseling or therapy?

Therapy often explores the past and supports mental health concerns. Coaching focuses on the present and the future, with clear goals, practical skills and action between sessions. If something we uncover would be better supported by a therapist, I'll tell you honestly.

How long does coaching take to show results?

Every marriage is different, but many husbands notice a change quickly. Some find clarity in a single session, and one client saw a communication problem that had lasted for years resolved within three weeks.

Does my wife need to be involved?

No. You can start on your own, and many husbands do. I also work with couples when that's the right fit.

Do you only coach men in a particular location?

No. All coaching happens online, so I work with husbands anywhere in the world.

Do you work with men of different faiths?

Yes. I work with men from all backgrounds and am respectful of the beliefs and values of different faith communities.

How do I get started?
